How do I download and install Adobe Flash Player ?

[To Download and Install:

  1. Go to www.adobe.com and click "Get Adobe Flash Player" button.
  2. When you get to download page, uncheck the Google Toolbar install checkbox. Then check the box, "I agree to the Adobe Flash Player Terms..."
  3. If in Internet Explorer click Install now, A dialog box will appear click Run or Install. When its done the flash player movie will play.
  4. If in Mozilla Firefox click download, and save it to the desktop. Close Mozilla completely, then double click the install icon on desktop. When its complete then press finished. Open Mozilla Firefox and your done. It is also safe for you to delete the flash player file.

  1. Go to www.adobe.com and click get Adobe Reader Button. Then click Download Now. You can either save the file or click run. Then follow the onscreen instructions.

How to Install Windows Vista?

  1. Note MUST have DVD capable CD Drive*
  2. While your computer is on, insert the Windows Vista DVD
  3. Reboot your computer
  4. On the Boot Screen, press F12
  5. On Boot menu choose CD-ROM Drive, to boot from the DVD
  6. When it has finished loading click Install Now
  7. Answer a few questions
  8. You will get to a screen that says choose a partition
  9. Highlight the partition that you would like to install Vista on
  10. Then click Format
  11. When finished click install
  12. When the install is done Vista will start
  13. Answer a few more startup questions and your done

How to create Bart PE CD ?

  1. Find the latest defs.ref from www.lavasoft.de and download it to Desktop\Autopatcher\
  2. Extract Desktop\Autopatcher\defs.zip to Desktop\pebuilder314-beta\plugin\adawarese\files\
  3. Find the latest superdat file from ftp.mcneese.edu\mcafee and download it to Desktop\Autopatcher
  4. Delete all files in Desktop\pebuilder314-beta\plugin\mcafee\files
  5. Copy Desktop\Autopatcher\sdatxxx.exe to Desktop\pebuilder314-beta\plugin\mcafee\files

    Note: Use the following commands in the command prompt:

  6. cd Desktop\pebuilder314-beta\plugin\mcafee/files
  7. sdatxxx.exe /e

    Note: The following steps are not to be used in the command prompt

  8. Go to the mcafee website and search for stinger download. If there is a newer version, replace the one for the Bard image
  9. Run the file Desktop\pebuilder314-beta\pebuilder314.exe

    Note: All the build information should be as follows:

  10. Source should be C:\cabs\XP-SP2

How to install DataStudio ?

Insert DataStudio CD into computer

    How to setup computer for image ?


    Note: Steps should be followed in the order they appear
    Redo Partitions:

    1. Set computer to boot from CD
    2. Insert a System Rescue CD
    3. Enter
    4. Type startx and press Enter
    5. Open GParted
    6. Delete existing partition(s)

      Note: Create Vista partition first

    7. Click New
    8. Set size to 12GB
    9. Change filesystem to ntfs
    10. Set as primary partition

      Note: Create XP partition second

    11. Click New
    12. Set size to 8GB
    13. Change filesystem to ntfs
    14. Set as primary partition

      Note: Create Linux Swap partition next

    15. Click New
    16. Set size to 2GB
    17. Change filesystem to linux-swap
    18. Set as primary partition

      Note: Create Linux partition last

    19. Click New
    20. Set size to 8GB
    21. Change filesystem to ext3
    22. Set as primary partition
    23. Click Apply
    24. Exit
    25. Reboot system
    Installing Windows XP

    1. Insert Windows XP CD
    2. Press Enter
    3. Select I agree
    4. Select the XP partition
    5. Select Leave the current file system intact(no change)
    6. Click Next
    7. Name: ACC
    8. Organization: Academic Computing Center

    10. Input Product Key

    Installing Windows XP Drivers

    1. Insert Dell Driver CD

    8. Select Ethernet Controller
    9. Reinstall Driver
    10. Select No, not this time
    11. Click Next
    12. Select Install from a list or specific location

    14. Uncheck Seach removable media

    17. Select Network Driver under Dell
    18. Select the file for XP

    Preparing Clean Image(drivers only):

    How to Ghost with UDP Cds ?

    Ghosting using UDP CDs(sender):

    Note: The image should have already been made.
    1. Insert a UDP Cast CD into the computer which has the image.
    2. Select English
    3. Select United States
    4. Select OK
    5. Select OK
    6. Select OK
    7. Select No
    8. Enter the IP Address you wish to use
    9. Enter the Subnet Mask you wish to use
    10. Select No
    11. Leave default of 9000
    12. Select /dev/hda
    13. Leave blank
    14. Select no compression

      Note:ONLY CONTINUE WHEN OTHER COMPUTERS ARE RECIEVING

    15. Start sender
    Ghosting with UDP CDs(recievers):

    Note: The sender should not be sending out the image until the recievers are recieving
    1. Insert UDP Cast CDs into the computers the image will be sent to
    2. Restart the computers so that they boot from CD

      Note: Sometimes the computer must be shut down and then turned back on for this to work

      Note: Once it has booted from the CD, the CD can be removed and used to set up another computer

    3. Select English
    4. Select United States
    5. Select OK
    6. Select OK
    7. Select OK
    8. Select No
    9. Enter the IP Address you wish to use
    10. Enter the Subnet Mask you wish to use
    11. Select No
    12. Leave default of 9000
    13. Select /dev/hda
    14. Leave blank
    15. Select no compression

      Note: Before the sender has started sending the image, continue with the next step

    16. Select ready to recieve

      Note: Be sure to do this for all computers that need to be ghosted before letting the sender send the image


    Note: The ACC is currently using a newer version of UDP Cast CDs. This documetation will be rewritten

    Outlook Faq ?


    Note: This FAQ is for Microsoft Outlook, not Microsoft Outlook Express
    Setup a new email account:
    1. Open Outlook
    2. Go to the Tools menu
    3. Go to E-mail Accounts
    4. Under E-mail, select Add a new e-mail account
    5. Click Next
    6. Select POP3
    7. Click Next

      Note: Fill in your information as follows

      User Information:

    8. Name: First Last

      Note: Email Address should be first initial added to the beginning of last name

    9. E-mail Address: flast@mcneese.edu

      Server Information:

    10. Incoming mail server(POP3): mail.mcneese.edu
    11. Outgoing mail server(SMTP): mail.mcneese.edu

      Logon Information:

    12. User Name: flast
    13. Password: Check/Uncheck Remember password

      Note: Select at your on disgression. Checking Remember password is NOT recommended by the ACC

    14. Click More Settings...
    15. Look under the General tab
    16. Mail Account: FirstName's McNeese Email
    17. Look under the Connection tab
    18. Select Connect using my local area network(LAN)
    19. Look under the Advanced tab

      Server Port Numbers:

    20. Incoming server(POP3): 110
    21. Outgoing server(SMTP): 25

      Server Timeouts: Set to 1 minute

    22. Click OK
    23. Click Next
    24. Click Finish
    25. Go to the Tools menu
    26. Go to Options
    27. Look under the Options tab
    28. Person Names: Uncheck Enable the Person Names smart Tag


    Edit existing email account:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Go to the Tools menu
    3. Go to E-mail Accounts
    4. Under E-mail, select View or change existing e-mail accounts
    5. Click Next
    6. Select the email address you wish to change
    7. Click Change...

    Delete an email account:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Go to the Tools menu
    3. Go to E-mail Accounts
    4. Under E-mail, select View or change existing e-mail accounts
    5. Click Next
    6. Select the email address you wish to delete
    7. Click Remove
    8. Click Finish


    Recieve email automatically:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Go to the Tools menu
    3. Go to Options
    4. Click the Mail Setup
    5. Under Send/Recieve check send immediately when connected
    6. Click Send/Recieve
    7. Check Schedual on automatic send/recieve every 15 minutes

      Note: Do not set your email to anything less than 15 minutes. The mail server will suffer if you do

    8. Click OK


    Inbox at startup:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Go to the Tools menu
    3. Go to Options
    4. Click the Other
    5. Under General click Advanced Options...
    6. Under General Settings set Startup in this folder to Inbox


    Add a contact:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Click File
    3. Click New
    4. Click Contact and type in the contact's information
    5. Click Contacts...
    6. Make sure Contacts is selected under Look in
    7. Click Apply
    8. Click Ok
    9. Click Save and Close


    Delete a contact:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Click Go
    3. Click Contacts and select the contact which needs to be deleted
    4. Click the Delete icon, which is represented as a black x located near the print icon


    Editing a contact:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Click Go
    3. Click Contacts
    4. Double click on the contact that needs to be edited
    5. Edit the information accordingly
    6. Click Save and Close

    How to adjust settings on email to leave messages on server?

    For Outlook Users:

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Go to and click on Tools tab in the file menu.
    3. Go down the drop-down menu and click on Email Accounts.
    4. Click on "View or change existing accounts," then click next.
    5. Then click on the account that you would like to change.
    6. Click CHANGE.
    7. In the Window that comes up click the More Settings button.
    8. Then Click on the Advanced Tab.
    9. Under this Tab you should see the setting to Leave messages on the server. Check or Uncheck the box.
    10. Click Ok or Close to exit the settings.

    For Outlook Express Users:

    1. Open Outlook Express
    2. Click Tools in the file menu and select Accounts
    3. Click the Mail Tab and click once on the Expedient Email Account in the account window to highlight it, then click the Properties button
    4. In the Account Properties, click the Advanced Tab
    5. Check the box beside "Leave a copy of messages on server"
    6. Click OK and OK. Click the Close button on the accounts window

    For Thunderbird Users:

    1. Open Thunderbird
    2. Click Tools in the file menu and select Account Settings
    3. Under your account name click on server settings
    4. Check the box next to "Leave messages on server"
    5. You can also set how many days those messages should stay on the server or if the messages should be deleted on server when you delete them in Thunderbird
    6. When done, click OK

      7. What is the difference between 32bit and 64bit computing ?

      Difference between 32 and 64 bit

                      64 bit computers can handle more RAM (memory) than 32 bit computers can. 32 bit computers can only handle up to 4 gigabytes of RAM, while 64 bits allows for much more than that – theoretically up to 16.8 million terabytes. This increased amount of memory allows the user to more effectively multi-task and/or run more demanding programs.

                      There are other benefits to using a 64 bit computer. With the right operating system, larger files can be more easily handled by the system. Now that 4+ GB files are becoming common on everyday computers, this is becoming an increasingly important concern. Certain programs also benefit from 64 bit processors. Tasks such as data encryption can be executed 3 to 5 times faster on 64 bit systems.

                      Some downsides of 64 bit computers are that some data can take up more space on a 64 bit computer when compared to the same data on a 32 bit computer due to the way that data is stored on a 64 bit computer. Also, even though most applications that work on 32 bit operating systems will still work on 64 bit systems, most device drivers designed for 32 bit systems will not work on 64 bit systems.

      How to install Java or Java Development Kit ?

      Steps to install Java

      1.       Start your internet browser.

      2.       In the address bar type www.java.com

      3.       Click on free java download.

      4.       Click free java download again and either choose the option to run or save the setup.

      5.       Once the installation has finished downloading run the installation.

      6.       Click install

      7.       Uncheck the option to install the yahoo toolbar and click Next

      8.       Once installation complete click Close.

      Steps to install JDK

      1.       Start your internet browser.

      2.       In the address bar type or copy this link : http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

      3.       Choose the JDK 6 Update 17 and click download

      4.       Select the operating system you are using under platform (Ex. Windows, Linux,etc.)

      5.       Check the checkbox to agree with the terms

      6.       Then click Continue.

      7.       If you get a security warning Click Yes.

      8.       Check the checkbox for JDK SE Development Kit 6u17

      9.       Click the link under JDK SE Development Kit 6u17 and Choose Run or Save.

      10.   Agree to the terms. Choose which components you want installed and Click Next.

      11.   Click Next and then Click Finish
